The New Realities of Real Estate

The New Realities of Real Estate by Ron Stone

In recent times many people have been treating real estate, including their personal residence like a business. Many homeowners and house investors had visions of becoming rich from their real estate. It also seems everyone thought they were an expert. Many real estate investors were looking like gambling addicts who thought they could make up for their losses with just one more roll of the dice. Based on some popular TV shows, many homeowners still think they can continue to see big profits. All the experts keep telling them that they just need to wait a little longer for the market to turn around.

Unfortunately, I have some bad news. We are not at the bottom of this market so home prices will continue to fall. Add to that the rising foreclosures, not just from the bursting of the real estate bubble but now from many hundreds of thousands of new layoffs. When you consider the following pressures on real estate buying and selling, how could anyone think prices are going to turn around any time soon? These include, 1) A huge inventory of houses, 2) Growing number of foreclosures, 3) Continued massive layoffs, 4) Extremely tight lending standards and 5) Banks and mortgage companies going out of business right and left.

It is sad, but true that Real Estate does not always go up in value. It might take a generation or more for real estate prices to just recover in some locations.

To illustrate this point with a real life example from the Great Depression, we knew a woman who was living off real estate in the 1990s her father bought during the 1920s and 1930s.

Seventy years is a long time to wait for an investment to pay off. It should change the way we manage our personal real estate investments. If you are paying on a big mortgage you experience severe risk in the event of job loss or an economic downturn.

Owing the bankers and loan companies just puts you under more pressure. So what should you do?

You want to get rid of the obligation as soon as possible. It makes you vulnerable to any income glitch like a layoff. If you own the structure outright, it means you only have to pay taxes, insurance and utilities.

Here are some good strategies.

1. Put aside money until you can put down a significant down payment if you are buying.
2. Get a short-term mortgage or better yet buy what house you can with no mortgage.
3. Pay off your existing mortgage as fast as you can.
4. Trade down to a smaller house that is more affordable.
5. Purchase some land where you can grow food or add on other structures.
6. Look for tax breaks for agricultural land and homestead exemptions.
7. Get rid of car payments and apply the income to your home. Cars are terrible investments. Even now real estate is better. I have seen car payments greater than many mortgage payments.

Forget trying to keep up with the proverbial Jones. They have gone or are going right off a cliff.

Lastly, prepare yourself and your family for an even further drop in home prices. Also, expect lots more foreclosures creating a continued downward spiral. If you prepare for the worst and it does not happen, think how much less stress you would have in your life without big house and car payments.

Learn to Speak French Before Your Vacation

Learn to Speak French Before Your Vacation by Christian Aubert

As the old saying goes "When in Rome, do as the Romans do," or in this case "When in France, speak as the French do." Part of planning your international vacation should include learning to speak the language of the country you plan to visit. It's only smart; and considerate! Being able to communicate in French may save a lot of time and embarrassment along the way.

Understanding vs. Speaking

Research has shown that if you understand more than you can speak, you may still carry on a conversation in a foreign language with ease. In fact, 65 percent of the French words researched in the study appear in every single French conversation. When you learn the basics of the language and the most commonly used words, you have a good understanding of conversational guidelines. This basic understanding makes it much easier to learn to communicate in French.

Smart travelers plan every aspect of their trip in advance. Many invest in online French courses to learn or brush-up on their French conversational skills. For some, speaking French isn't nearly as easy as simply understanding it. Having a basic understanding of multiple languages is smart. French is one of the most common second-languages spoken around the world. Job applications will often inquire about the languages you speak fluently; then about the ones you understand, but may not speak.

Learn French Conversational Skills

Americans often slur or chop our words; the same is true with other languages. Some learn French courses teach specific properly written sentences. While this is great for learning to speak the language, it isn't the best way to really learn French conversational skills. Instead of pronouncing every word properly, fluent French speakers often use shortened words, simply because it's easier and more efficient.

If you're currently planning your international trip and would like to learn French online, a wide variety of websites are available. The course you choose to study depends primarily on the way your brain works. Visual learners may learn more quickly with flash cards and photographs, while audio learners will need to hear what they're learning. Streaming or downloadable videos and audio segments are a great asset while learning a foreign language. Accents on specific letters in words are difficult to relay via text only. Things to look for in an online course include:

* Fast - Some online French courses offer to teach you the basics of the language within a few short weeks. This may seem like a long time, but the self-paced lessons let you learn at your own pace. You control the speed at which you learn. An online French course that may take one person 3 weeks may only take you 4 hours.

* Easy - The ability to study and learn French online shouldn't be a painful or time-consuming process. Students should look forward to practicing their new skills and the next lesson. The online French course should be fun, fast and easy to understand. A good professor will even make sure their course is easy, but not so easy it becomes boring to their students.

* Structured - Structured learning is the best method. The lessons should be well-structured so you learn in sequence and at a steady pace. There is no need to learn the end of a conversation before the beginning. The French language is very fluid and romantic, even if you're talking about whose turn it is to walk the dog.

* Real - Anyone can learn to speak words in another language. A great online French course will teach based on real conversational values. Single words never got anyone very far and they do not make a good conversationalist. The course should include full French conversations and offer students the ability to join them.

* Inexpensive - Money, money, money. The cost of an online French course doesn't mean it's the best or the worst on the market. Several websites offer inexpensive or even free French lessons and quizzes. If you've already invested in an online French course, be sure to try out some of the free quizzes available online to put your conversational skills to the test.

Speak French like the French do! Take French language courses and classes online and speak French with confidence. Visit SmartFrench.com for a free demo lesson.

The Making of the Tintin Movie - The Story So Far

The Making of the Tintin Movie - The Story So Far by Holly Franklin

Spielberg has been a keen fan of The Adventures of Tintin comic books, which he discovered in 1981 when a review compared Raiders of the Lost Ark to Tintin. His secretary purchased him French-language editions of each book, but Spielberg did not need to understand them: he straight away fell madly in love with its art.

In the meantime, the comics' creator Herge, who hated the prior live action film versions and the cartoon, became fascinated by Spielberg.

Michael Farr, writer of Tintin: The Complete Companion, recalled Herge "thought Spielberg was the sole person who could ever do Tintin justice". Spielberg and his production partner Kathleen Kennedy of Amblin Entertainment were scheduled to rendezvous with Herge in 1983 whilst filming Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in London.

A three-year long option to film the comics was finalised in 1984, with Universal as distributor. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) writer Melissa Mathison was chosen to script a film where Tintin battles ivory hunters in Africa. Spielberg saw Tintin as "Indiana Jones for kids" and wanted Jack Nicholson to play Haddock but was unhappy with the script, Spielberg continued with production on Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989 ). After the three years were up Spielberg lost the rights.

Warner Bros. bartered hard and long for the rights, but they could not guarantee the "creative integrity" the Foundation found in Spielberg. In 2004, the French mag Capital reported Spielberg was intending a trilogy primarily based on Secret of the Unicorn / Red Rackham's Treasure, The Seven Crystal Balls / Captives of the Sun and The Blue Lotus / Tintin in Tibet ( which aren't single stories, but both feature the Chang Chong-Chen personality ).

In the meantime, Peter Jackson, who had long been fascinated with 3-D filmmaking, was incredibly excited by current advances in the format. By luck they came together and Spielberg and Jackson concluded a live action adaptation would not do justice to the comic books and motion capture was the most effective way of representing Herge's Ligne Claire style of Tintin.

A week of filming occurred in Nov 2007 in Playa Vista, LA, California, on the stage where James Cameron shot Avatar. Andy Serkis had been cast, while Jackson stood in for Tintin.

The film was broadcast to Weta Digital, who produced a twenty-minute test reel that demonstrated a photorealistic outline of the characters.

An official statement about the collusion was made in May 2007, though both filmmakers had to attend to film it: Spielberg was preparing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (which was due for May 2008) and Jackson was planning The Lovely Bones
(October 2009 ).

In October 2007, Steven Moffat was announced to have been brought in to pen the screenplays for two of the Tintin films.

Moffat asserted he was "love bombed" by Spielberg into accepting the offer to draft the films, with the director promising to shield him from studio interference with his writing. Moffat finished the 1st script, but could not complete the second thanks to the 2007/2008 Writers Guild of America strike. He then became producer of Doctor Who, leading Spielberg and Jackson (the latter of whom is big fan for the show) to permit him to leave and fulfil his requirement to the series.

It'll take 30 days to shoot each film; Spielberg will film his in LA whilst Jackson will film his in New Zealand. An online connection between Weta in New Zealand will permit Spielberg to view the animated version of his film whilst shooting in LA.

But in Aug 2008, a month before principal photography would have started, Universal turned down their option to co-produce the film, quoting the low ticket office of Monster House and Beowulf and the directors' common request for 30% of the gross. Paramount Pictures (DreamWorks' distributor) was hoping to partner with Universal on the project having spent $30 million on pre-production.

Spielberg was uncomfortable that Paramount would have to fully fund the Tintin Movie, because he was leaving the studio. He gave a ten-minute presentation of footage, hoping they would approve for filming to begin in October. Paramount offered to produce if the directors opted out of their gross percentage deals: Spielberg and Jackson declined and looked for new options. By October 31, Sony was in negotiations to co-finance and distribute the first film. Filming was rescheduled to February 2009.

Independence and New Surprises in a Successful Relationship

Independence and New Surprises in a Successful Relationship by Terry Leslie

It is really important that you check in with yourself every now and then and make sure that you are presenting an accurate picture of yourself to those around you. If you start becoming too predictable, too stereotypical, women start to lose what interest they have in you. Don't be afraid to show up with a few little surprises here and there. Most of all don't be surprised when she gets really turned when you change it up on her a little bit.

I am not talking a total and complete make over. I am simply talking about opting to be genuinely unique as you are. Stop paying attention to the rules of conduct that are governed by your clothing or the type of car you drive. Be a totally independent man.

Being an independent man means making decisions that completely work for you. Some women find a little too much independence a turn off. For instance if you've been dating for six or seven months and things seem to be heading in the direction of long term serious commitment and you turn around and quit your job without notice and decide that the two of you are moving to Tahiti, you might throw her off a little bit.

However, if you have decided to change careers or you decide to break out of all your old habits and start new ones without becoming a completely different person overnight, she really might find that you are keeping it seriously interesting.

The biggest trouble men have with who they are is trying too hard to follow all of the rules that have been laid out for them. The sensible guy isn't supposed to get spontaneous and the bad boy isn't supposed to settle down and get a real job. These are most definitely presumptuous thoughts and invitations for complete dismantling. And I would encourage you to dismantle away.

By being independent and offering up your own unique view of the world and how you fit into it, you are able to keep things moving in a new and enlightening direction. Women won't get bored with you.

When a woman gets bored with you it basically means that you have become too predictable. You are not adding an element of excitement to her life, which is vital for everyone who really wants to experience being alive.

Chances are that before any woman ever announces that she has become bored with you that you have become bored with yourself. You have been sporting the same haircut for how long now and you have been performing the same identical daily routine for how long? When was the last time you really challenged yourself? When was the last time you took a lot of big risks and enjoyed the thrill of it all? It can be really easy to get locked into that safety of familiarity. When we stop challenging ourselves we stop growing. And when we stop growing those around us become rather bored with us.

Sometimes it is just as important to step out there and take a risk with yourself as it is to take a risk in order to get a woman's phone number. You are not an automatic machine with a preprogrammed future. You are in control of your life and getting on the stick and deciding to shake things up a bit keeps you more engaged, more present, and most definitely more in demand.

Being interested in the world way beyond your window is part of being an engaged member of the world. Visit places and learn new things. Develop an attitude of restlessness and spiritedness. These attitudes will save you from the doldrums of self boredom which in turn save you from the boredom of women.

When a woman can count on you to enhance her life, to make her crave new things and new experiences, and to be there when the world decides to hand over a little bit of unfairness, then a woman can count on you to be the one she wants to fall in love with. It can take her a long time to determine that you have what it takes to fill the shoes of being her guy, but once you're there you are in for the ride of your life.

Prospects to Purchasers - The MLM Way

Prospects to Purchasers - The MLM Way by ERIK GIFFORD

Do you own a network marketing business, either in real physical life or via the Internet? If so, how do you go about converting those precious prospects in to profitable purchasers, whilst maintaining some degree of consistency?

You see, most people in the MLM industry won't even know what that question means. They will understand how important it is to make sales, push products, and so on. But when it comes down to defining exactly what it is that makes or breaks a network marketing business, the answer they give will no doubt be as vague as it is thoughtless.

Therefore, in this article, we will explore the exact definition and terminology surrounding "prospects". I will attempt to give you a better understanding of the ways in which you can apply promotional ideas to this specific group of people.

As always, we begin with a clear cut definition of what we are talking about. Interestingly in this case, the term "prospect" can take on a number of different meanings. It could relate to the people who are already engaged in business activities with you - ie. someone who has bought a product from you before.

Alternatively, it could be someone coming to you for help. Another idea is that a prospect is someone who has been identified as a possible purchaser from their past activities or current objectives.
If you don't mind being a bit open-minded on the matter, a prospect could actually be anyone around you.

That didn't help much at all did it? I basically just implied that everyone and anyone is a "prospect". Well, don't get too frustrated with me just yet. Indeed, all of these people are prospective prospects, but the real defining attribute of this specific group is that they are all potentially able to be converted in to buyers.

There is the key point that sets prospects aside from everyone else. Applying this idea in reverse allows us to see that I was correct in the second paragraph when I said that "anyone around you" could be one. That's because anyone, whether it be friends and family, old work colleagues, teachers, students, etc. may possibly be "willing and able" to analyse, consider, and eventually purchase the product you have on offer.

This leaves us with the idea of marketing and promotion. Having defined this specific group of people as those who are "able and willing", our advertising and base selling efforts should be swung heavily towards these people. What do I mean? Well, let's follow through an example. Your network marketing business is based on the Internet, selling and allowing people to resell luxury Christmas food packs throughout the year, with home delivery at Christmas time.

The prospects for this business include those people who are able to afford the Christmas package, those who will be in the country in December, anyone who has a residential address and credit card, etc. Therefore, your marketing will be specifically related to people fitting in to each of these categories.

Do you see what I'm saying? There is no point in trying to sell this product to people on average or low incomes, as they won't even be able to afford the pack. Additionally, those with no residential address will probably have issues with the shipping, so again this is a bit of a time waster. By doing this type of analysis, you are able to nail down the exact target audience that you want to market to, and ignore the expense of the rest.

That may sound harsh, but when it comes down to it, your network marketing business or MLM is the most important aspect that needs to be looked after here. Hence, your efforts should be focused on making it succeed, instead of pleasing each and every person out there.

A prospect is someone who is willing to purchase from you.Erik Gifford is a network marketing coach and trainer. Please call 004722520239 for free network marketing training and visit http://www.networkmarketing-guidance.com

Psychics, Astrology and Relationship Advice

Psychics, Astrology and Relationship Advice by raphnix

Aside from career guidance that psychics can provide for their clients, they are also famous in giving instructions or step-by-step advices about love and relationship. Their reputation for yielding business tycoons to the best success strategies have the same rank as how they institute healthy, long-term and happy love relationships. It's like they have this natural touch to people in terms of love-matching and partners' relationship building where everyone are crazy about. Have you ever wonder why we're too fond of reading our daily horoscopes?

In psychology, humans are naturally capable of socializing as a form of survival instinct even after birth. Some experts quoted that the setting where a new born baby starts to seek his/her mother is the bottom proof of our need for company. However, the bases for man looking for a woman partner and vice versa has no distinctness whether it's love or sexuality. That's why some people try to figure out the concept of soul mates or natural love serendipity.

Likewise, psychics that specialize in astrology somehow understand the value of character matching and personality compatibility as to the development of true love and life partnership. The cognitive calculation of entities from the sky beyond through people below can be the long lost answer for this subject. The concept of universal (infinite space) association of any object or individual to the movements of the stars, planets and other celestial bodies is said to be the hidden knowledge behind perfect love matching and perfect relationship.

The astrological signs marked on us from our birth date have it's full answer of who and what type of person we can be compatible to love or to live with. It's like a common clue that no ordinary people can decipher unless has the proper knowledge of astrology and astronomical divination which rare psychics possess. So, psychics have this special metaphysical ability to calculate planetary and star connection among us where they can derive some attribute for relationship and love serendipity.

But how do they really come up with these ideas? Are those some spontaneous information that pour in whenever they want? Or are there some formula still before they can manage some accurate readings or prediction? As what I described earlier, psychics and astrologers have devoted themselves solely in observing and calculating human connection through space. Then maybe, their long expertise with that field have been an advantage to them in uncovering the hidden links between earth and the sky beyond.

Therefore, psychic knowledge over advising and providing positive counsel to people is either an inborn talent or a developed sort of profession. That's why they can be lined up to doctors as of psychology or medicine and other higher legal profession because of there exclusive proficiency in their field. Also with the astrologers who has tantamount attribute of scholarship as astronomers since they both studies and analyzes the array of objects in space and there possible effects to each other. Thence, seeking for their advice can also be considered as consulting to professional experts whilst giving you assurance of authentic and satisfactory psychic services.

Wait! ... Why You Shouldn't Skip Breakfast

Wait! ... Why You Shouldn't Skip Breakfast by Frances Cheung

Do you ever find that you don't have time to eat breakfast in the morning? Or maybe you're trying to cut back on calories and figure skipping breakfast will help in your weight loss efforts? Or perhaps you just don't have an appetite for breakfast in the morning, or you just don't know what to eat?

I'm sure we've all heard it before: breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But is it really? Does skipping breakfast really make that much of a difference?

In short, yes, it does! Breakfast is so important, not only because it breaks the fast from between the time you eat dinner and when you get up (hence break-fast), working to jump start your metabolism, but because it also sets the tone for the day.

When you're creating the time and energy for breakfast, you're simultaneously honoring your body in that moment, sending yourself the message that it's important to you that you prioritize eating and being healthy - and this will carry through the rest of the day. Try it and let me know how it works for you!

Consider these other reasons for taking the time to honor your body with a healthy breakfast:

What you choose or choose not to eat for breakfast can really impact your moods, your energy, your thinking, and your concentration for the day. Food is more than just nutrients, vitamins and minerals. It is also energy. Feel scatterbrained some days and completely grounded on others? Hint: what you eat may have more to do with it than you think.

Eating breakfast stimulates our metabolism by breaking the overnight fasting period and replenishing our body's source of fuel. People who skip breakfast tend to snack and binge on less healthier items throughout the morning/early afternoon with whatever they can grab - be it a sugar-laden muffin at work, candy, or even soda. These foods are not only nutritionally deficient, they are often loaded with chemicals, empty calories, and wreak havoc on our thinking and performance throughout the day. It's not unusual for the bingeing to carry through to lunch or dinner, as your body continues to compensate for the skipped breakfast meal. Ultimately, skipping breakfast hampers weight loss efforts in the long run.

What do you do if you just don't feel hungry in the morning? Try having dinner earlier in the evening, and have a lighter meal. By morning, you should have an appetite. It may also take your body some getting used to at first. If you don't have an appetite in the morning immediately, there's no need to force yourself to have a big breakfast. Eating complex carbs with some protein, i.e. sprouted, whole grain toast with some almond butter, is perfectly fine.

Breakfast doesn't necessarily require much time - it just requires preparation in advance, and waking up 15 minutes or so earlier in the morning to make. Take a half hour during the weekend, and stock up on a few different options for breakfast. How about some frozen berries for smoothies, bananas for your oatmeal, or steel cut oats for a more hearty breakfast?

Keeping all the above points in mind before you go to bed tonight - what will you eat for breakfast tomorrow morning?

And be sure to note the difference in your energy, mood, focus and concentration!

Choosing a Savings Account More Than Just A Safer Piggy Bank

Choosing a Savings Account More Than Just A Safer Piggy Bank by Everette Jamison

Everybody should have a savings account, and preferably more than one. There are different types of savings accounts to meet different needs.

From basic savings accounts, which work well as starter accounts and which offer some interest but not a whole lot, you can move to higher-interest bearing savings accounts, money market accounts, certificates of deposits, and more.

Basic Savings Account

Basic savings accounts are just that. You deposit money, and it grows. Slowly. Still, if you leave it in there long enough and keep adding to it, its growth can be substantial over time.

The basic account is probably also the right account for kids who want to put their piggy bank savings to more effective use. But once they have saved enough, they too should consider upgrading. And if you wish, you can set your savings account up so that you can access your money through an ATM machine. Then again, you may prefer not to do that, the temptation is too great to use up the money. It's better to let it grow.

As with all banking services, if you want to open a basic savings account, it's worth your time to shop around and compare interest rates and minimum deposit requirements. Generally, interest compounds daily and is paid monthly. If you already have a regular bank, start your shopping there.

Money Market Savings Account

Once your savings have grown a bit, you may want to add a Money Market Savings account. You will earn more interest on your savings, yet you still will be able to access your money easily. You can even have ATM cards to get money at your leisure.

Certificates of Deposit

But there are more savings account options. Certificates of Deposit, also called CDs, allow you to lock in even higher interest rates for the time you decide to commit your money. Be sure to plan ahead, though, since you will lose some of those benefits if you need your money back earlier than planned. Certificates of Deposit generally come with hefty penalties for early withdrawal.

IRAs and Roth IRAs

At an even higher level, with much less flexibility but much higher rewards - there are savings instruments such as IRAs, Roth IRAs and similar savings accounts. The government has specific guidelines about how much you can save and when you can get your money back, so once you're ready to open an IRA or a similar account, talk to your friendly
bank representative to get the full details.

Six Foods To Save Your Brain

Six Foods To Save Your Brain by JD Bell

It was just a few months ago when I experienced what some might call a "senior moment". I was in a conversation and, all of a sudden, I had a thought I wanted to get out, but couldn't think of the word I needed to express it. I knew exactly what I wanted to say, but the specific word I was looking for just wouldn't come.

Moments like this are not necessarily tied to age and have happened to anyone who has forgotten a name, misplaced their car keys, or found themselves tongue tied in a conversation. They just seem to occur more frequently as we get older and our brains lose vitality.

However, there are ways to ensure that your brain continues to operate at a peak performance level, even as we age. The key is to energize the cells of the brain by supplying it with a steady diet of brain essential fatty acids and ensuring that blood sugar levels remain consistent.

There are many supplements that have been designed to provide brain-rich chemical combinations, but it all starts with a healthy diet. There are many foods that provide brain essential nutrients, but six key staples excel in their ability to keep our brains young and sharp.

Berries

Berries of all types, but especially blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, cranberries, and strawberries, provide high levels of brain essential omega-3 fatty acids. A study at Tufts University showed that rats, when fed a diet that included blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and vitamin E, tested at a superior level for balance, memory, and speed while navigating a maze.

Fresh berries are best, but frozen will do in the off-season.

Fish

Cold water fish are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Salmon, herring, mackerel, sardines, and tuna all contain high levels of the brain essential omegas. Wild, deep water fish are best as they typically avoid heavy exposure to mercury, dioxin, and the other toxins and bacteria that permeate shallower waters.

Eggs

Eggs get a bad rap for their relatively high levels of cholesterol, but they actually provide multiple nutrients critical in the maintenance of healthy brain tissue. Eggs are rich in lecithin, a critical building block for brain membranes, and a natural emulsifier of cholesterol and fats.

Eggs are also contain high concentrations of lipids, serine, inositol, and the brain essential amino acids tryptophan and tyrosine. All are critical components in maintaining mental clarity, memory, and other brain functions.

Spinach

Spinach, especially when served fresh and raw, protects healthy brain cells and rejuvenates old and damaged ones. The green leaves contain high levels of the B vitamin folic acid which is a powerful neuro booster. Studies have shown that diets rich in folic acid prevent the onset of Alzheimer's and other mentally degenerative diseases.

Spinach also contains high levels chlorophyll, lutein, and flavonoids. Flavonoids are especially valuable for the long lasting antioxidant protection they provide.

Other green vegetables that feed the brain include kale, broccoli, basil, arugula, kelp, and cilantro.

Beans

Beans are at the top of the brain-essential food chain. The dark beans (black, red, and kidney), provide a healthy supply of low glycemic carbs, brain essential amino acids, and high concentrations of antiaging antioxidants.

Walnuts

A handful of walnuts provides over 3g of healthy omega-3s. They contain an optimal balance of the omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, ensuring that the maximum benefits from both are obtained.

Walnuts are best acquired while still in the shell to preserve the valuable oils inside. They make an excellent snack between meals and assist in stimulating healthy brain activity throughout the day.

Peanuts, hazelnuts, pecans, and almonds are also excellent sources of antioxidants.

A fine tuned brain is a critical component of any healthy lifestyle. It all starts with a diet rich in brain boosting vitamins and nutrients that will keep you sharp and focused. You can live younger if you include them in your daily eating habits.

Preparing to Grow Roses, or Laying the Foundation

Preparing to Grow Roses, or Laying the Foundation by Adrian Kennelly

Having chosen the location and decided upon the size and shape of your beds, you are next ready to prepare the soil. Rev. F. Page-Roberts, an ex-president of the National Rose Society of England, has said: "After years of rose-growing in places far apart, I think it is not so much the soil and the climate, as the care and skill of the cultivator that wins success."

A very successful grower of roses in New York state once remarked to a meeting of his rose society: "I would rather plant a 15-cent rose in a 50-cent hole than plant a 50-cent rose in a 15-cent hole." He was wise. The author recalls visiting a successful private rose-garden in New England one day when the roses in one bed were being moved. Those roses had well- developed roots 3 feet long, because the bed in which they were growing had been prepared to that depth, and the top- growth and bloom had been luxuriantly magnificent, testifying to the value of deep and thorough soil-preparation.

When Noah laid the keel for the ark, the placing of those foundation timbers was relatively not more important than is laying the foundation for future years of rose-growing, for those periods - not only of flood but also of drought - through which your roses must pass and later come up smiling.

Now ample drainage is one thing that must be provided, if you are to court success. "Wet feet" are no more conducive to health and happiness for roses than for children. Examine your soil; if there seems a need, provide drainage. Remove the soil from your bed to the very bottom. Place there a layer from 4 to 6 inches deep of stones not larger than your fist, broken bricks, clinkers, or other suitable material that will readily "take" the water from above. The soil is seldom so retentive as to require tiling to take the water away and, indeed, nine times out of ten no artificial drainage at all will be needed.

As to soils, the good loam so often found directly beneath the sod is excellent, but is greatly improved by being broken, even pulverized, to a depth of at least two spades and thoroughly mixed with about one-third its bulk of rotted manure. Fresh manure must never be allowed to touch the rose roots. Indeed, the more thoroughgoing way is to make sure of the nether layer of soil by removing the upper one.

First of all, peel off the sod (it will produce excellent compost; see section on "Fertilizers" that concludes this chapter); next take out the top layer of soil to the depth of 1 foot and pile it nearby. If
the soil below that is good, rich loam, or a fair mixture of clay and loam, it may remain. Loosen this with a garden fork to a depth of another foot, preferably not upturning it, and mix with it well-decomposed manure, and then put back the top layer of loam in which to plant your roses.

If, on the other hand, you find the subsoil poor, barren, and unproductive, you may have to remove it altogether. Haul it away and put your chopped-up sods in the bottom, grass-side down, to rot and make future plant-food. If you have ready from the previous year a compost made by mixing one-half or two-thirds of sod with the balance of manure from the cow- stables, use it in the bottom of your bed, and thus insure a future storehouse of rich nourishment for your roses.

Another hint: A few broken bones may be mixed with the soil in the bottom of the trench, say a peck for a bed holding a dozen roses. These will decay slowly and furnish plant-food for three or four years to come.

Not all roses like the same soils. The Hybrid Perpetuals, for example, love a heavy clay or loam; so do the heavier-growing climbers; whereas the Teas, Hybrid Teas, Bourbons and the like, revel in a lighter soil and a warmer one, with less than 50 per cent clay or loam, and more sand or leaf-mold. Rugosas thrive even in quite sandy soil.

It is difficult to give the roses too rich soil. If your soil is light and sandy, and you cannot well replace it entirely, it may be greatly improved by mixing a little clay or rich loam with it when trenching. If your soil seems too heavy, it can be made lighter and more open by adding sand, or even coal-ashes. To be good for roses, the soil must be such as will not quickly transmit to the roots sudden surface changes of temperature. The roots should be kept cool. If it be possible, after the soil in your bed has been prepared, give it time, say two to three months, to settle before planting your roses. If this be out of the question, press with your feet each layer of soil in your bed, as you proceed to fill it in.

The subject of fertilizers is important. While manure from the cow-stable is best, you can draw upon the horse-stable, sheep-pens, or pig-sty with expectation of good results, and "night soil," mixed with dry soil, or sand, and well composted is excellent. Chicken manure may be used with caution. Well- rotted leaves are fair, but too light except for heavy soils. Commercial fertilizers, such as ground bone or guano, may be used to advantage if handled with discretion. A rule to remember is never to let any "green" or "raw" manure come close to the roots of your roses, but see that it is buried well beneath the root reach, or applied as a top-dressing. After your roses have been planted, the best time to apply manures is just as the ground begins to freeze in the autumn. Let it serve as a protection over winter, and dig it in next spring, being careful, however, not to disturb the roots.

Far better than surface-coating is the ample supply of fertilizer placed well under the roots in the bottom of your beds before you plant your roses, because roots travel toward their food-supply. By thus enticing them downward, you develop a strong, deep root-growth down into the reservoir of stored-up food and moisture, so that, when dry weather comes, they will not hunger and thirst, as they would with only surface roots. Surface application of manure-water is quite a different matter, as that will percolate down to the deepest roots.

It is said that roses draw most upon the soil when blooming, and we find we can almost see the results from application (when the flower-buds begin swelling) of liquid manure, concocted by catching the drain from the manure-pile, or from one-third of a bushel of manure placed in a bag and soaked in a barrel of water. Apply this as a weak tea, not too strong, but frequently, say twice a week. When it is more convenient, a sprinkling of bone-dust on the surface before a rain will answer the same purpose. Even with the best care, it may prove necessary in some locations, say after six or eight years, to renew the soil or move the bed, adopting the principle of crop rotation.

Thailand – Some general information about paradise

Thailand – Some general information about paradise by Robb Stark

Thailand was before nineteen thirty nine called The Kingdom of Siam – some areas and shopping centers in downtown Bangkok still carries the name such as Siam Center, Siam Square and Siam Paragon.

The northern part of Thailand is a remote mountainous area covered in monsoon forests consisting of bamboo, teak and palm trees. Deep and fertile valleys are also plentiful in this area. To the west, this landscape is continued following the Myanmar – formerly known as Burma - border down over the Malacka peninsula. To the east, the plain-like and relatively well cultured Khorat plateau extends, which is met by branches and tributaries of the Mekong River. The heart land of Thailand consists of mainly backlands and fertile lowland plains around the river Menam (Chao Phraya). The plains are covered with numerous channels and canals, most of which overflow during Thailand’s summer monsoon season. The monsoon season is between May and October, and generally results in between twelve and fourteen hundred millimeters of precipitation.

The mammalian fauna of Thailand has been greatly decimated over the years. Deer and antelope are still rather common, and to the west and north east wild elephants can sometimes be seen. However, the big cats have become extremely few in numbers, and the rhino and tapir are all but extinct already. Birds, reptiles, batrachians and fish are still quite plentiful in numbers. Mentionable among the insects arte malaria mosquitoes, termites and silk butterflies, which range from both cultured to wild.

Thailand has a tropical monsoon climate with a rainy season during the hottest summer months. The yearly precipitation ranges from one thousand to two thousand millimeters per year and the average temperature averages between twenty and thirty degrees centigrade depending on the latitude.

The larger part of Thailand’s population is Thai, all of which speak closely related language variants of Thai, and share the same cultural traditions. There are, however, two larger minorities in Thailand. One of these is the Chinese minority located in large areas of Thailand’s capital of Bangkok, where the Chinese mark is very prevalent, as well as controlling a large part of the business and finance areas. There are over one million Malays on the Malacka peninsula, and on the land areas bordering Myanmar and Laos, there are some mountain tribes with their own ethnic, cultural and language identity.

Religiously, Thailand is dominated by Buddhism according to the Theravada school, which was introduced to Sri Lanka in the seventh century. This Buddhism is the state religion, and the king is obligated to follow it by law. There are many Buddhist temples – Wats – and Bangkok has over four hundred of them. The most famous temple is the one with the reclining Buddha in the center of Bangkok. In addition to Buddhism, there are also areas of different religions such as Animism and Hinduism.

The school system in Thailand is of an English influence. General compulsory education is in place since nineteen twenty one for children between seven and fifteen years of age. Of all of Thailand’s fourteen state universities, seven are located in Bangkok.

Bear Valley -- California's OTHER ski resort

Bear Valley -- California's OTHER ski resort by Cary Ordway

The center of the skiing universe in California could be in the Lake Tahoe area or perhaps the big-time ski resort at Mammoth Mountain, but skiers and snowboarders looking for slopes a little more on the quiet side will find more than they imagined at Bear Valley.

While not on a par with Squaw Valley or Heavenly or other major California ski resorts, the Bear Valley ski area is still a prime candidate for a weekend or even an extended skiing vacation. As we discovered in early February, Bear Valley offers a surprisingly complete ski vacation experience - no frills, to be sure, but still rewarding and well worth the trip deep into the Sierra Nevada range.

If designer clothing stores, zillion-dollar condos, and Hollywood-style glitz are part of your criteria for a ski vacation, this ski area might not be the best choice. If wide-open ski runs, no lift lines and plenty of groomed snow are more important to you, then by all means give Bear Valley a try.

Coming originally from the Pacific Northwest, we could not help but compare Bear Valley to one of our favorite ski areas in Washington state - a place called Mission Ridge in a town named Wenatchee. The population in that part of the state is sparse compared with the big ski areas near Seattle, so Mission Ridge is able to offer wide-open skiing runs most days of the week.

Similarly, Bear Valley is less accessible than the many larger ski areas in the Lake Tahoe area. Bay area and Sacramento residents can drive Interstate 80 to the Tahoe area and find a selection of ski resorts a short distance off the interstate. To reach this ski area, you have to drive two-lane roads through the foothills and mountains for close to 100 miles.

But when you get there, most skiers and snowboarders will find it's worth it. Our mid-week skiing was some of the best we've experienced - plenty of wide-open, groomed terrain perfect for intermediates and serviced by a number of lifts where there seemed to never be lines. It was ski down the run, get right on the chair and do it all again and again until just a few hours into our day we were growing exhausted. We probably skied in four hours what it would take us a full day to do at a resort with moderate lift lines.

There are no gondolas or high-speed quad chairlifts at Bear Valley, although there are 10 lifts altogether, mostly doubles and triples. About 1280 acres are available for skiing and snowboarding; some 100 acres are in an area where they can make snow - although at 7,750 feet, it's likely Mother Nature will supply all the snow you need.

We mentioned the intermediate skiing because that's our favorite - but rest assured this ski area has many black diamond or expert ski runs for those looking for more of a challenge. The day lodge is situated mid-mountain with lifts going both up the mountain to 8495 feet, and coming to the lodge from the lower part of the mountain. Most of the expert runs are located on the lower mountain.

The area's day lodge also was wide open and easy to navigate. Instead of masses of people waiting in line to get their food and find a place to sit, we stepped right up and got our cooked-to-order Philly cheesesteak sandwiches in just a few minutes. And there was no shortage of menu options - lots of different types of food from sandwiches to Asian cuisine, from soups and salads to major meals.

But the Bear Valley experience is much more than a daytrip - or at least it should be given the time it takes to get to the ski area. For our trip we booked lodging at the Bear Valley Lodge, one of just a few hotel-type facilities near the mountain. Located about three miles from the mountain, the Bear Valley Lodge seems to be the hub of activity in the area and proved to be a good choice for accommodations. While showing some of its age - it was built in the 60's - the lodge proved to be a comfortable, convenient base of operations. A ski shuttle bus will take you to the mountain, and you can even ski all the way back to the lodge.

When we say comfortable, we are not comparing the lodge to the high-end condos you find at most major ski resorts. The rooms at Bear Valley Lodge are more like a motel unit with two double beds a bath area and a TV/entertainment area that included HBO. But small touches - such as the bay window looking out onto the snowy landscape or the pine furniture - helped to make this feel much cozier than a motel room.

The four floors of rooms at the Bear Valley Lodge look out onto the Cathedral Lounge, a large open space in the middle of the lodge that offers guests a place to sit and read and enjoy the fire in the massive stone fireplace. Photos are mounted along the walls depicting the history of the lodge and Bear Valley ski area. Celebrities such as Spider Savich, Claudine Longet, Merv Griffin and several others are shown skiing or otherwise enjoying Bear Valley.

Adjacent to the lounge are several shops including an old-fashioned general store - with a deli to get quick sandwiches and soups - and a surprisingly complete ski shop with all of the latest ski equipment, clothing and accessories. But keep in mind this is not the type of resort where you can spend hours shopping when you're not on the slopes; your down time here most likely will be spent in front of the fire reading a good book.

During our brief stay we dined in the lodge's Grizzly Lounge - mainly because the other lodge restaurant, the Creekside Dining Room, was closed Mondays and Tuesdays. The lounge food was good and included a few menu items from the Creekside. We did learn that the Creekside has recently employed a well-educated and accomplished chef that has proven both creative and popular with guests - so we were disappointed we didn't get a chance to sample the Creekside cuisine.

We also enjoyed a meal down at BaseCamp, a lodge that is just a short walk from the Bear Valley Lodge and the only other hotel-style lodging this close to the ski area. We enjoyed our meal at BaseCamp where we got to know an English waitress who had come to Bear Valley simply because the skiing is so good. The BaseCamp, incidentally, offers the lowest cost rooms in the area with "bathroom down the hall."

There are also condo and cabin rentals available in the Bear Valley area, as well as the Tamarack Lodge further west on Highway 4. Prices in general will be less at BaseCamp, moderate at the Bear Valley Lodge and Tamarack, and more when you rent an entire vacation home.

While in the area, there are several small towns and attractions that are worth a stop if you have the time. To reach Bear Valley in winter, you'll be traveling through the historical town of Angel's Camp and then a similar but smaller Gold Rush town called Murphys.

But our suggestion would be to allow plenty of time for skiing. You'll want to ski or board Bear Valley just as long as the weather - and your legs - will hold out.

AT A GLANCE

WHERE: Bear Valley Ski Resort is on Highway 4, about 52 miles from the foothills town of Angel's Camp, and 130 miles from Sacramento.

WHAT: Bear Valley is a throwback to skiing in the '60's and '70's - no high-speed quads or gondolas but lots of wide open groomed terrain in a gorgeous setting.

WHEN: Winter always means where is lots of snow for skiing as well as many other snow sports; the area also is a popular summer recreation area with numerous lakes, hiking trails and a pristine forest.

WHY: It's refreshing to ski where there are no lift lines and little pretense - most of the "beautiful people" went to Colorado; the home-growns stayed here. Economically, this ski vacation is quite affordable.

HOW: For more information on Bear Valley Ski Resort, phone (209) 753-2301 or visit www.bearvalley.com. For more information on Bear Valley Lodge, phone (209) 753-2325 or visit www.bearvalleylodge.com.

Seven Tips for Proper SEO

Seven Tips for Proper SEO by scott gallagher

When you're trying to compile a small business marketing plan in today's world, it is inevitable that the internet and search engine optimization are going to be a major part of your plan. In order to achieve your goals, follow these tips for proper and successful SEO when implementing your small business marketing plan.

1. Have a usable and effective website: It is amazing how many people make the mistake of spending a load of money and time driving traffic to their site, only to have an unattractive, difficult to navigate, or slowly loading site.

2. Focus on content first: If you focus on creating a lot of quality content on your website, the links, the hits, and the traffic will follow. If you just try to create a site that the search engines will love without worrying about the quality of your content, you may gain hits, but no one will stay on your page for long.

3. Focus on local keywords: If you are a small business, there is a good chance that you deal with a majority of customers that reside in your immediate local area. By targeting your SEO and PPC efforts in that direction, you are raising the likelihood that you are going to be driving qualified traffic to your site.

4. Focus on Quality Links over quantity: Never forget that Google and other search engines take into account the site or origin of you links in the search engine ranking systems. Higher quality links will yield more positive results in the long term.

5. Expand your focus: One of the most important tips you can give someone who is entering the muddy waters of SEO, is to never focus so much on your search engine rankings that you forget all of the other important and essential online marketing methods, such as email campaigns and social marketing media. Never forget, SEO is a great tool, but just one tool among many.

6. Stay Current: Many people always try to stay up with the latest changes to the Google search algorithms, and there are a number of high quality SEO blogs and newsletters out there that can help to keep you up to date with the latest in SEO tips and hints.

7. Use your headings, titles and tags: This is one of the most basic, and yet most often overlooked elements of good SEO. Use your web page titles, your title tags, your headings, and any image tags strategically to help drive some qualified traffic to your site.

Solar Panels - Cheap Alternative Energy

Solar Panels - Cheap Alternative Energy by B Hopkins

With the cost of fuel rising, most consumers are feeling the energy pinch. Even through times of brief respite in the price, we can be pretty sure that the lower prices won't last. It should not be an excuse to stop searching for alternative energy sources however. If the government is taking to long to move the nation into alternative fuels, we can all do something ourselves to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.

Solar Panels, cheap alternative way to produce electricity for the home, is one-step in the right direction for reducing our dependence on foreign fuels, which individuals can take on their own. Solar panels are typically used to produce electricity and are also called photovoltaic cells. A photovoltaic panel is an assembly of interconnected photovoltaic cells or solar cells. Solar crystalline cells are a crystalline-based structure that is able to take sunlight and convert it into electricity. The more photovoltaic cells that are on a panel, the more electrical current can be produced. In order for the solar panels to be useful in practical applications of an alternative electrical source, they must be constructed in a certain way. The solar cells must be:
1) Electrically connected to each other as well as the rest of the system.
2) Protected from physical damage from situations such as hail, wind and snow, because some types of solar cells are brittle.
3) Protected from moisture such as rain and humidity so the metal contacts don't get corroded, or the cells don't form an oxide layer, which will decrease performance.
4) Electrically insulated, especially under rainy conditions.
5) Sturdily mounted.

Since sunlight is really made from a huge range of electromagnetic frequencies, solar cells only are able to convert a small percentage of sunlight into useable electricity. Solar cells can now be created to maximize their efficiency by using the different frequency ranges of sunlight, yet that would require an additional device to separate the different frequencies and shine them on the appropriate group of solar cells that are designed to specifically convert that frequency of sunlight. It is estimated that this technique would increase the efficiency of solar cells by 50%. Currently without this method, solar cell efficiencies are in the range of 5 to 19%, which is actually a higher efficiency than solar panels produced in earlier years. There are new processes being researched, which will concentrate the solar light to the photovoltaic modules and can raise the efficiency up to 30%. With today's technology, the average solar panel can produce about 140 watts of electricity.

The benefit of using solar panels is that they create electricity from an unlimited resource, the Sun. When the Sun stops shining, not having electricity will be the least of your concerns. The traditional standard crystalline silicone solar cell modules have about a 25 year life span. Over 4 million of these modules were sold in 2007 alone.

Solar panels provide a cheap alternative to energy in the long run because the power source is isn't a fossil fuel and creates electricity from a renewable resource and the byproducts are not carbon dioxide, or other waste products that will damage or affect the environment. Old solar panels can be recycled so they don't end up in landfills. It is easier now than ever to create a solar system for your home and reduce your energy costs needed to power your home.

You can power your home with solar energy by using solar panels you build yourself for under $200 if you know the right information. Read reviews on info products that show you how to create solar panels cheap. These popular DIY solar panel info guides can get you quickly on your way. Your Website - Make It Yourself!

Your Website - Make It Yourself! by James Schramko

Many of you, your friends and colleagues have begun to find out just how easy it is (with the right software) to make your own website. Armed with the proper tools and tutorials, most of us can design and publish a simple website in less than an hour.

Advanced tools allow you to place professional features on your site and the better programs will have an extensive template library that allows you to have a site that looks like it was created by a professional graphic designer. With the use of templates, a site styled for you - all you need to do is add the content, then publish.

The publishing step is often the most daunting for newcomers, but if you really want to make your own website, you should be empowered to do this by your software.

What Do I Need To Publish?

First of all, it is important to note that your website design software is not server software. You need to register a domain name, and sign up with a web hosting service before publishing your website.

Registering your domain name will cost around $10-15, and your web host will charge you a monthly fee depending on which plan you select. Once you've done this, you'll find yourself with a web address and some basic log-in and password information.

In the old days, you'd have to go jump through a few hoops, set up a few extra uploading programs, and place your website on the server piece by piece. The good news is that these are times of user-friendly software, and the best ones ensure it as easy to upload your site as it is to create - read on...

Wizards Take It From There

When you're ready to publish your website, on your software's publishing page you simply need to enter just 5 pieces of information that you received when you registered your domain name and web hosting service.

Once that is done, you can publish your website at anytime with only two clicks! Imagine that! Should you decide you need to make some changes and want to get the new pages onto your website fast - no worries there, just a couple of mouse clicks and its done.

A progress window will inform you of how long the upload will take, and when its done, that window has a button that takes you directly to the site so you can review your work.

Keep It Organized

The best website software program gives you complete control over your website. From its file manager interface you can easily sort through all the files on your website (including images, audio, video, and others). This very handy and simple to use tool helps you monitor it all.

It is really bad business to skimp on software once you have decided to make your own website. By buying a package that is not only user-friendly, but powerful enough to grow with you, you will free yourself from the frustration that used to accompany creating and publishing your own website.

Be sure to get a bonus when you buy Xsitepro, the world's most user-friendly website design program - ideal for first-timers and experienced internet marketers alike.
