Seven Things a Financial Planner Can Help You With

Seven Things a Financial Planner Can Help You With by Julie Davidson

Whether you're newly married and interested in buying a home, or settled and worried about college for your children or retirement, a financial planner can help. Besides the usual retirement superannuation, a financial planner can help you form a plan to invest, plan for taxes in the future, and plan for financial security.

What is a financial planner?

Unlike a stock broker, who directly invests your money in the stock market, a financial planner devises a plan to help you save money for now and later in life. Their company offers funds and plans to invest your money in, and they charge either a flat rate fee or a percentage to sell you different investment plans.

A good financial planner belongs to the Financial Planning Association of Australia (www.fpa.asn.au) and is fair and upfront about fees, easily accessible and answers your questions. You can usually find a good financial planner by asking friends, family or co-workers, or checking out the FPA website. So, once you find a financial planner, what can he or she help you with?

1) Help You Understand Risk.

Your financial planner will carefully consider your debt, assets and income to assess where you stand and develop a sound financial plan for your requirements. However, you also need to think about the level of risk you want to take and to set aside funds appropriately.

If you want to gain wealth quickly you're going to have to take some risk in losing money and investments due to the nature of the business. Some plans are very low risk when it comes to your losses but they also gain less worth and gain at a slower pace.

A good financial plan will have a balance of risk levels, with some funds in high risk areas such as investing in shares or property and funds in lower risk investments such as a capital gain life insurance policy.

Your financial advisor can also assist you with devising a strategy to alter your risk levels over time so that you're putting more of your money into more secure investments as you acquire wealth.

2) Assess Your Insurance Needs.

A financial planner can be an important key to helping you to assess your insurance needs. No matter how old you are, it's essential to ensure that the ones you love are taken care of in the event of your death or injury. This means making sure you have adequate insurance to cover your needs, such as paying off your mortgage, paying the everyday bills and educating your children, if you have them.

There are many different types of insurance you can purchase, such as total life coverage, disability, trauma and salary continuance. A meeting with a financial planner will help you to assess your debt, your needs and your risk to find an insurance plan that's perfect for you and your loved ones.

3) Avoid Over-Taxation.

If you're dealing with trying to manage superannuation funds, investments, and all of the financial planning factors on your own, you might be taking a hit in the taxation department.

The government has set up a lot of laws to help Australians save through superannuation funds that give tax breaks. However, a good financial plan will have a diverse mixture of investments that expands above and beyond superannuation only.

Your financial planner can help you assess the amount of taxes you'll need to pay and help you to develop the best plan to keep taxes low so the money can stay in your pocket.

4) Retirement Planning.

Waiting until you're ready to retire to take retirement planning into hand is by far the worst thing you can do. The upcoming retirement of the Australian Baby Boomers will double the amount of retired citizens over 65 years.

As Australians are living longer due to good nutrition and better healthcare, this means there will be less in the Age Pension fund to help out in your retirement years.

A financial planner can help you plan for your retirement by helping you to choose a good mixture of superannuation fund, investments outside of super that you can access in the event of emergency, and help you manage the level of insurance you need to cover your loved ones' cost of living in the event of your passing.

5) Solving the Myth of Superannuation.

A financial planner can help you understand which superannuation funds work best for you. Understanding the ins and outs of superannuation, or super can be confusing on your own.

You may believe you don't need more than the 9% saved through your employer to help ease the burden of retirement. If you're thinking it's enough money to retire on, you're wrong. The FPA estimated that a person retiring in 2003 would have a measly $100 a week, tops (based on a person surviving 15 years after retirement).

6) Borrow to Invest?

This may seem like a strange concept, but a financial planner may be able to help you decide if it's in your best interest to borrow money to help you make better investments. Some people want to create wealth quickly, and borrowing money will give you more funds to allocate towards investment.

A financial planner can assist you with assessing your financial position to get an idea of the level of risk involved. If you decide to borrow, you'd still be assuming risk, but with the help of a planner it would be less than if you decided to borrow on your own.

7) Assess Inflation.

If you look at your portfolio, you might think you have a good amount of capital growing - until you take into consideration the rate of inflation.

A good financial planner will be able to help you assess inflation to help you keep your capital growing over the years. You want to make sure your after-tax return is greater than the rate of inflation so the value of your money doesn't decline. You also want to make sure you have some capital growth over the years, and a financial planner is someone who can help ensure this.

In Conclusion.

There are quite a few things a financial planner can assist you with to get your finances in order. From retirement planning to assessing the inflation rates to your portfolio, a good financial planner is able to channel funds into different risked funds and plans to create a secure future for you and your loved ones.

Bottle Logic -- Identifying Wine By The Look Of The Bottle

Bottle Logic -- Identifying Wine By The Look Of The Bottle by Kent Campbell

Did you know different wines have different bottles for a reason? Wine bottle making goes back in history and even today you can closely identify what's in a bottle of wine without even looking at the label. This article looks at wine bottles, describing the five common types identified as historical by white and red wine club associations.

The Glass Wine Bottle

The first effective storage containers for wine were large pottery jars known as amphorae. However, they didn't last long and became out of favor when the Romans began to blow glass into rounded bottles they stored in sand. In the 1730s, the Romans abandoned rounded bottles for bottles with straighter sides because they could be more conveniently stacked.

Modern wine bottles were born in 1821 when H. Ricketts & Co. Glassworks of Bristol, England, patented a machine that molded glass bottles. Traditional shapes developed in various European wine regions became standardized, mass-produced, and shared by all. Five particular designs including Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne, Alsace, and Mosel from Southern Spain and Portugal where the English obtained fortified wines became the norm. At a glance, these shapes allow you to identify the general content of most wine bottles before even reading the label.

Bordeaux Bottles

Bordeaux bottles have tall shoulders and straight sides. Wineries through the world that make Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, and blends of these along with other Bordeaux varietals use Bordeaux bottles. The shape is also common to the noble red wines of Italy and Spain prized by red wine club associations. The glass color of Bordeaux bottles is usually dark green, which originally resulted from impurities, but later found to protect wine from sunlight. The design is well suited for red wines that produce sediment as they age because the sediment collects in the shoulder of the bottle while pouring the wine. Sauvignon Blanc and Semillion, the primary white wines of Bordeaux, also come in Bordeaux bottles.

Burgundy Bottles

Wider Burgundy bottles have gently sloping shoulders. Winemakers use Burgundy bottles for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Gamay, the principal varietals of Burgundy. The Rhone style is similar to Burgundy and used for Syrah, Grenache, and the blended wines of the region.

Champagne Bottles

Champagne and sparkling wine from other areas require bottling in heavy glass with a deeply indented punt at the bottom to withstand six atmospheres of pressure, three times the pressure inside an average car tire. Without the punt, the bottom could easily blow out. The punt has the additional benefit of being a thumb grip to make the bottle easily held for pouring. The shape has a long thin neck with a lip around which the wire basket fastens to secure the cork.

Alsace And Mosel Bottles

The Mosel in Germany and Alsace in France use a very tall, slender bottle, usually green in color. The Rhine in Germany uses the same bottle although its color is brown. Wineries here and in the new world bottle Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Muller Thurgau wine in these bottles.

The fortified wines of Spain and Portugal, Port, Madeira, and Sherry, are typically bottled in heavy Bordeaux shaped bottles, although Port, which ages for decades and throws sediment, is often found in bottles with bulges in the neck that capture the sediment when the wine is poured or decanted.

The next time you're shopping for wine, take a hint from white and red wine club associations and see if you can identify what might be in a bottle before looking at the label.

Kent Campbell is an author for the popular wine of the month club, Celebrations Wine Club. Celebrations Wine Club is one of the few red wine club associations offering the wines of Italy and California.

Choosing the Right Rose for your Garden

Choosing the Right Rose for your Garden by Kevin Lim

The many different variety of roses do pose a problem for some. This is because you will have problem choosing the right rose for your garden

To make this task a bit easier, I've added some crucial factors that you should consider, and some of the different types of roses to aid in your search.

- Color may seem like a trivial matter, but it is usually a factor to those that want to grow roses. Usually it is simply a matter of personal preference.

- The final growth height of a rose should be considered as it would be unattractive to grow roses that are higher than the area of the garden that it grows in. Some roses can grow to be as high as 20 feet.

- If you live in an area that is prone to cold winters, you would certainly want a rose that could survive during the off season.

- If certain fragrances invoke an allergic reaction, you would want to plant roses that have a softer fragrance than the others.

- You would certainly want to learn what the advantages and disadvantages would be if you were to choose certain roses over others.

- You will want to consider the size of your garden space, so that you can ensure proper exposure to the air and other elements as well. - If you are hoping to make your roses into bouquets, you will want to know if they can be cut. Hybrid teas can. Some roses will fall apart at the petals if they are cut.

- Other flowers and plant should be consider to compliment the rose's environment. It is important not to add plant that will damage the environment that the rose thrived on.

After you get a sense of the type of roses that you would like to plant, you will naturally want to know which type of rose's best fit your ideas for planting.

There are too many to list here, but I can list some of them for you. You should consult your nearest garden center for advice on whether your choice is fitting to your garden's abilities.

Landscape roses
For novice gardener, land scape roses are good choice. They are disease resistant, and require a little bit less maintenance. Novice are advise against hybrid teas.

Climbing Roses These roses grow vertically up as they are trained to do so. This is the basic different compare to regular roses. Most people like to use these for trellises, or buildings. Some of them are hybrid teas, wichuraine, and large flowered climbers. These are beautiful addition to anyone's house.

Shrub Roses Shrub roses like the beautiful rugosa are both long blooming, and disease resistant. These are also great for the novice planter. They are gorgeous even when they are not in bloom because the foliage is so pretty.

Old Garden Roses These roses are not very good for those with severe allergies to strong fragrances because they have a strong fragrant odor. They can bloom for a prolong period if they are disease resistant.

The Modern Rose These are very special roses because they are the result of cross breeding the hybrid tea with the polyanthus. Floribunda is what they are being referred to. They are a beautiful combination of the best those two flowers have to offer. They are long blooming, fragrant, and they are great for cutting.

Miniature Roses

Miniature roses are exactly what they sound like. Even with a smaller blooms, they posses all the fragrance and beauty of any other roses. These particular roses are great for indoor planting.

How to Speed Read - What You Must Know!

How to Speed Read - What You Must Know! by Wayne Combes

Not all people are born with the talent to read fast. But you can strive to teach yourself how to speed read. In this day and age, people need to be able to absorb information quickly to keep up with the demands of time and to stay ahead of the competition. That explains why you need to become skilled at speed reading.

There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to speed reading. One technique may work for a person but not for another. So the best advice for those who want to learn how to speed read is to practice reading often. That doesn't mean you have to turn into a bookworm overnight. Also, you don't need to force yourself into reading a book that can bore you to death. To be able to appreciate the beauty of speed reading, choose a material that's interesting and engaging to you. It can be a romance novel, a comic book, magazine, or a blog site - anything that catches and sustains your attention.

As you're practicing, take note of the factors that prevent you from learning how to speed read. For one, lack of practice alone can kill your chances of reading quickly. Poor concentration due to a lot of distractions can also make you re-read certain sentences or paragraphs, making it take longer for you to finish a page.

You can also observe others so that you know how to speed read. Some fast readers read silently and skim through pages, focusing only on the important points. Then try the methods and see which one works best for you.

When you start to see an increase in your reading speed, you can accomplish incredible results. There are courses available that claim to increase your reading speed by anywhere from 10 to 100 times faster than normal reading speed.

The one issue with some of the speed reading courses is the only focus is on reading speed, not comprehension. Reading faster is only one piece of the puzzle. There are other major benefits that can be derived from increasing reading speed such as improved grades and better use of time.

Wayne Combes is a father of three with a passion for learning and reading. He discovered an excellent system that will teach you how to speed read and a lot more, including; improving concentration and focus, boosting self-esteem and confidence, reducing stress, and becoming much more organized.

This system has allowed his son, Andrew, to decrease his high school work load and improve his grades at the same time. Learning how to speed read is a great advantage for both kids and adults.

Tintin Goes Hollywood

Tintin Goes Hollywood by Jimmy li

In 1929, a French cartoon series appearing in a children's supplement in Belgian newspaper Le Vingtieme Siecle would introduce the world to a unlikely hero. Written and drawn by Belgian artist Herge, the series focused on the adventures of boy reporter Tintin and his faithful sidekick french terrier dog Snowy. The stories followed the two on a series of globetrotting adventures as they uncovered mysteries in the post depression world. Tintin's adventures were infused with Hergé's charm and humor. A colorful cast of supporting characters such as Captain Haddock, Professor Calculus and the Thompson twins rounded out the ensemble. Although Hergé may not have known it his beautiful art style and knack for adventure storytelling ensured that on January 10 1929, a star was born.

My earliest memories of Tintin come from reading the comic series as a child in the library. My parents would leave me for hours at a time at the local library while they went grocery shopping and I quickly became familiar with Tintin's adventures. The books possessed a swashbuckling adventure quality similar to Indiana Joenes which would translate quite well into film.

Recently it was announced that Tintin would be made into a feature film to be released in 2011. Spielberg first acquired the rights to Tintin after Hergé's death in 1983 and re-optioned them in 2002. The film was to be made into a motion capture 3-D feature (think Beowulf and Monster House) with live actors recording movement and audio to be translated into a digital model. The film is set to be a collaboration between Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson with hopes to become a trilogy. The first film tells of the tale of Tintin's first encounter with Captain Haddock as told in "The Crab with the Golden Claws" and "The Secret of The Unicorn.". Although it has seen a long development cycle and has already seen a delay in release date, the first film has wrapped principle shooting and is currently in post production.

I have mixed feelings about the Tintin books receiving the Hollywood treatment. Part of me is interested in seeing how Tintin is translated on the big screen. Another part of me fears that those same childhood memories will be sullied by another big budget Hollywood feature. The fear is that Hollywood will change the source material to make it more marketable to the masses. Tintin will be a relatively new character to the majority of moviegoers who see it in 2011 and I wonder if the original source material will be as charming in the 21st century. It is often tempting for filmmakers to alter characters, plot points and narratives to make it more stylized and appealing to the young demographic it wants to cater to.

With heavy star power behind the production and within the cast, I cannot see Tintin being anything but a commercial success. As Hollywood struggles to find original property to film, more and more source material will be mined from classic cartoon, comics, and literature. I realize I am being naive but sometimes I wish Hollywood would ask us for permission before filming our childhood properties. I may not have millions invested but I do have an emotional one. With movie technology as advanced as it now is, Hollywood can now make a movie out of just about anything they want. The question is, should they?

Excellent Feedback, The Key To eBay Success

Excellent Feedback, The Key To eBay Success by John Thornhill

Having excellent eBay feedback is a key factor that affects how many sales you will make, as many people see your feedback as a sign of trustworthiness and experience. For example, if your feedback score is high, that means you have sold a lot of products therefore a potential buyer will see that the products you sell are good, because you have sold a lot. However, if you have a lot of negative comments on your feedback score people are less likely to buy from you and your business will suffer.

Buyers can also leave comments when they have purchased your product. They are likely to comment on things such as efficiency with delivery and the level of service, etc, etc.

It is not hard to gain excellent feedback on eBay and avoid those dreaded negatives. Just follow these 3 simple steps and you will have excellent eBay feedback in no time.

1. Always be polite when dealing with customers, no matter what the situation is just deal with it without getting angry and being aggressive towards the customer. No matter how amazing your product is, you will always get one awkward customer, but if you remain polite and deal with the problem in a polite and professional manner you will probably find your customer leaves you a glowing report. However, if you lose your temper a negative comment is almost guaranteed.

2. Be efficient. Don't keep your customers waiting for their product, the longer the customer is waiting the more likely they are to leave you negative feedback. Think about sending a confirmation email, to reassure the customer that their order/payment has been received and that their product is on the way, this reassures the customer that their purchase has been acknowledged and that their product should be with them shortly. And as always remain polite and try to be as helpful as possible.

3. Provide your customers with good value for money, don't sell products that are not worth the price your charging, and don't try to bump up the price by charging excessive postage costs. Many people will be deterred if they see a cheap item with a high postage cost. Also make sure your item description is 100% correct. For example, say your selling a 1982 marvel comic book, don't say it is in mint condition if it is not, as when the customer receives their product and finds that you lied in your item description they will most likely leave negative feedback and ask for a refund.

There you go, 3 simple steps to ensure your eBay feedback score is preserved and your eBay business flourishes.

LG Versa: Style & Versatility

LG Versa: Style & Versatility by Sam Lee

When you first look at the LG Versa, some similarities to another popular LG touchscreen phone, the LG Dare, becomes a bit evident. However, besides the similarities in overall appearance the Versa VX9600 stands apart as a very competent offering in the touchscreen segment.

Customizing Looks: In the standard packing, the Versa has an attachable QWERTY keyboard and a built-in leather casing. However, if the user does not want the QWERTY's bulk then there is a very interesting option — it can be detached and the typing can still be carried out with the virtual keyboard that is available as a part of the touch screen. Similarly, the back cover can be replaced with the QWERTY's cover pad and the phone now has a slightly different looks. The cover is equipped with a impressive OLED display. The standard call/send/end quick buttons are conveniently located for improved user experience. Yes, many superficial similarities to the Dare are there but the Versa is a sleeker version of the two and its battery cover has a smart high-end texture wrapped around. Customizing the appearance of each home screen is easy and the gear icons lead you to easy-to-follow instructions displayed on a page, explaining the entire gamut of settings options. The keyboard attachment also boasts of faux leather on either sides and this gives the phone an executive touch.

Evaluating Features on Offer: For a change, the handwriting recognition software actually works and even if you scribble, the text is changed into proper fonts. Yes, there are some issues in differentiating between numbers and letters but then that is the case with most touchscreens in this category. It has a huge phone book memory up to 1000 contacts. Other useful applications include Text/Multimedia messaging, speakerphone and a tip calculator. The drawing pad is very intuitive and it assists you when trying to sketch small drawings. The 2 megapixel camera is below average considering the current market standards. It could have been better if LG has fitted a 5 megapixel at the very least. The GPS work with the VZ Navigator Subscription Service and the audio specs offer a built-in speaker and A2DP stereo along with a 2.5 mm stereo headphone jack. Memory expansion is offered in the form of an SDHC micro-SD card slot.

Verdict — The LG Versa is a combination of being a slightly executive-styled and a fun-themed phone. It is a bit different from the usual touch screens in the market and operating it is undemanding. It does make a strong case as a smart purchase and promises durability and performance.

The Advantages of Solar Energy in Home Energy Bills

The Advantages of Solar Energy in Home Energy Bills by Shellaine Enfesta

There are so many advantages of solar energy in our home energy bills. You can really make a list of all the advantages but the main advantage is that it gives you saving on your home bills. Another big factor is that you are helping the environment. Some of these devices are in the forms of panels that generate the power and turn it into energy power. The first major advantage is that these panels should last around 20 years or longer, in fact many manufacturers offer guarantees of 20 years or longer.

Depending on what solar power for residential homes are chosen, the initial investment can range from about $2,000 for a do it yourself home water heating system to much higher for systems that store power in batteries for use for heating, cooling, cooking and lighting as well as hot water. The United States Department of Energy has estimated that in a 100 square mile area in the southwest of the United States receives in on day the total amount of electricity consumed in the daily in the United States. For most of us this is not a reality. High prices for gasoline and home heating oil are here to stay.

Natural resources are not renewable forms of energy this means that many of them are already becoming more and more expensive. The energy in sunlight striking the earth for 40 minutes is equivalent to global energy consumption for a year. It is also compatible with cell phones and other portable electronic devices. Solar energy makes use of the sun's energy. Its unique fan blade design allows it to achieve maximum solar area when in use, and to fold compactly to the size of an average mobile phone when stored.

The storage system is usually created from batteries, not unlike those used in vehicles. Scheer said, the grid owners are the owners of the conventional power companies, and it is normal that they want to give priority to their own production and even block the entry of renewables. Because a system that is not properly installed will not pass inspection by local officials and has the potential to cause a fire, this is a job for a skilled person that is well versed in the engineering involved in home electrical systems. If the area your house is built in gets enough sunlight then it should be possible to run most appliances. This would not only mean that solar power would be saving the environment but also saving people's lives. The surge of interest in the payment system is a recognition that despite generous state and federal incentives, the United States still lags far behind Europe in solar power.

In Gainesville, the new policy has already sparked a rush to put up panels. We project that this energy could be sold to consumers at rates equivalent to todays rates for conventional power sources, about five cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh). The decay of vegetation along the riverbed can cause the buildup of methane. There are even designs that can be found that use empty aluminum cans, such as beer and soft drink cans, and old sliding glass doors to create a perfectly functional system at very low cost.

Why should we use regressive taxation to support the most expensive form of renewable energy? In the past few years the cost to produce photovoltaic cells and modules has dropped significantly, opening the way for large-scale deployment.

Public Speaking - How to Speak With Confidence

Public Speaking - How to Speak With Confidence by Edward Hope

Most people experience "nerves" when they speak in public. Both skilled public speakers and novice speakers experience this anxiety. The difference is in how they use it when they present because of the actions they take and their attitude towards it.

The way to speak with confidence is:

1. Preparation

Careful preparation naturally leads to self-confidence. This involves researching your topic thoroughly so you can build your expertise in it. When a selecting a topic it helps greatly if you are interested in it because when you stand up to speak to a group you are merely expanding the conversation you will have had previously. Once you have researched the topic the next step is to organize, outline and write the speech. When beginning in public speaking, it is advisable to write your speech out in full, so you get a fully thought through speech. Keep the sentences short. Use spoken language rather than written language especially if you are considering reading your speech. (Note it is difficult to convey confidence when reading a speech).

2. Practice

Thorough practice builds confidence. The more familiar you are with your speech the better armed and confident you will be in delivering your speech. The number of times required to run through your speech will depend on the nature of the speech and the natural skills of the speaker. The practice speech delivery should include presenting in front of friends and family. If possible have a dry run at the venue will help you get used to the actual circumstances of the delivery.

3. Performance

When it is your time to present, keep a confident expression on your face and walk purposefully to where you will present from. Stand firmly on both feet placed slightly apart and stand up straight (don't lock your knees). This gives over an air of confidence. Pause and take a few deep breaths and smile (but not like a Cheshire Cat) to settle your nerves. A smile is contagious and also conveys confidence. Be natural, move and speak like you would in normal conversation. This includes looking at your audience. Looking down or away from your audience can be interpreted as "nerves" or lack of preparation. The more often you speak in public or to groups the easier it becomes and the more confident you become. 4. Self Talk

Talk to yourself in a positive way. Keep focussed on the success of the talk rather than what could go wrong. Just before you go on to speak, really go overboard on the positive self talk so you are bursting with "positivity" when you speak.

Experienced speakers can still have "nerves" before they speak. They see this as a spur to give the best speech they can. Others see it as excitement. The same feelings are experienced but a different attitude towards them makes a big difference.

Speaking with confidence comes from exercising a little courage. Many talents are denied the world because it is not exercised. The forest would lack much music if only the birds that sang were the ones with the best voice.

Persistently speaking in front of groups builds confidence. It is by consistently practice and doing, that public speaking is improved. By taking the first step and realizing that the key to success is in your own hands the first "bud" of confidence appears. With proper care and attention the "bud" is developed so that you become more effective and speak with confidence.
